The stereographic projection was originally known as the Planisphere projection, known to Hipparchus and Ptolemy and was often used to create celestial charts in ancient time.
This example inflates any CONVEX polyhedra into a sphere and projects its vertices and edges onto a horizontal plane from the “north pole”.
